When to go?
In general, autumn is cool and wet. If temperatures are still mild in October, they are gradually falling and are cold in December. Precipitation is moderate in October and significant the rest of the season. In spring, temperatures rise gradually, they are mild in May and warm in June, so it is the ideal time to visit this region and enjoy its beautiful scenery.
A favorite destination for lovers of mountainous landscapes and outdoor recreation, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and its exceptional natural heritage are a paradise for hikers lovers of large protected areas and sports enthusiasts thrilled with thrills. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is also rich in a remarkable built heritage. Its fortified castles, Romanesque churches, typical villages and towns with an important architectural and cultural heritage. To the south of Lyon, on both sides of the Rhone valley, two major tourist destinations are revealed: the Drôme on one side, with its charming villages, its gentle hills, its lavender fields and its mountainous terrain , the Ardèche on the other, with its famous gorges prized by kayakers, villages of character, volcanic sites, medieval castles and superb panoramas.
